How to make rounded corners in Photoshop

Clean, sleek, new designs often use a rounded corner effect for their pictures. While this can be done by web designers with CSS alterations, we can also do it for images outside of websites using Photoshop.

There really aren’t too many steps to this so you should get it completed in no time.

Tools we’ll be using

• Crop Tool
• Rounded Rectangle Tool
• Move

Getting started

We’ll begin by cropping the image to the desired size.




Press “Enter” to confirm the crop.
With the Background layer selected, choose the “Rounded Rectangle Tool.”



Choose a “Radius” of "30px,” or modify to taste.



Draw over the image to where you want the limits to be. The excess space, outside the rectangle tool, will be where the Background layer color is revealed in a few moments. You can adjust the selection location with the “Move Tool (V).”



Then right-click the image layer, the flower layer in this case, and choose to “Create Clipping Mask.”



The result is immediately noticed with the Background color showing through to the sides.



Delete the Background layer and choose to remove the excess transparent pixels with “Image > Trim.”



Save the file as a PNG and you’re good to go with a rounded cornered image with a transparent background.
